What should I bring when I'm hiking with my dog?

I've been hiking solo, with my boyfriend, and with a large group, but what about hiking with a dog? This was a question presented to me when a friend of mine wanted to bring her dog on our hike.

See, we both have hiked casually and know how to take care of ourselves, but what are the necessities to bring for a dog when you're on a long hiking trip?
